 | Holiday World is now weekends only |
SpringsValley.com News Lexington, KY USA By Megan Adams, SpringsValley.com News Staff
According to a statement made by Holiday World, the park has entered its 'weekends only' season.
"We don't know where the summer went, either -- but suddenly it's back-to-school time here in southern Indiana.
Because
of the early school-year launch, we will be in "weekends-only" mode
starting August 14. The only 2010 weekday we'll be open after that is
Labor Day Monday. Otherwise, it's Saturdays and Sundays only for the
rest of the season.
Meanwhile, there are still lots of rides to be enjoyed in both parks!
Splashin' Safari is open weekends through September 18, and Holiday
World is open weekends through October 10. Please note both parks will
be closed for private outings on September 11, 12 and 19. For the full
schedule, please...

SpringsValley.com News Lexington, KY USA By Megan Adams, SpringsValley.com News Staff
The Dubois County Museum will celebrate its eleventh anniversary of operation on Sunday, August 22, 2010, with a variety of activities planned for the day. The museum will open from 1-4pm. Free ice cream will be served from 1:30-3:30pm, as well as, a variety of desserts. The desserts will be available from recipes that are featured in the recently published cookbook coordinated by museum volunteers. Cookbooks will be available for sale that day at a cost of $12, plus tax. For the younger folks, Snickers the pony returns to give pony rides. Also, during the afternoon, area pianist and organist Dan Racicot will play from a variety of Kimball instruments on display at the museum. Dan had sold Kimball organs first in Michigan and when he relocated to Jasper he continued to sell the Kimball organs and pianos. He remembers featuring the Swinger organ at local fairs so that fairgoers could witness the many capabilities of the organs.
The Dubois County Museum, Inc. was opened in 1999 after two years of planning by a group of citizens who desired to create a museum for Dubois County. From 1999 through 2004, the Dubois County Museum operated in the historic Gramelspacher-Gutzweiler Building located at 1103 Main Street in Jasper. In 2003, Dubois County Museum, Inc. was gifted the former Jasper Corporation building, a 145,000 square foot building, from Kimball International on north Newton Street in Jasper. This location became the new home of the museum in 2004 and currently serves as a showplace of Dubois County’s rich heritage and History.
The Dubois County Museum is a local non-profit organization committed to the collection, preservation and interpretation of historical artifacts and information...

 | HOLIDAY WORLD'S ‘VOYAGE’ ENGINEERS DESIGN NEW COASTER TRAINS |
SpringsValley.com News Lexington, KY USA By Megan Adams, SpringsValley.com News Staff
SANTA
CLAUS, IND-----The #1 Wooden Roller Coaster in the World will feel
faster and a lot smoother in 2010, thanks to a new set of trains,
engineered by the same team who designed the record-breaking coaster.
“When the engineers at The Gravity Group told us they designed Timberliner trains with The Voyage
in mind, they definitely got our attention” says Holiday World &
Splashin' Safari president Will Koch. “The Voyage is extreme and we
want to keep it that way season after season. These new trains will
help a lot.”
Koch
says the Timberliner’s wheels are engineered to steer through curves as
they move along the coaster track, creating a smoother ride and less
wear and tear on the track. The seats are ergonomically designed for
greater comfort, including an exclusive seat-suspension design. The
padded seats will also accommodate wider-hipped and longer-legged
riders.
“Since the trains will ‘track’ better, riders will experience a much
smoother Voyage,” says Koch. “That also means there will be less
‘rolling friction,’ so the ride will quite possibly be even faster when
it reopens in May.” The Gravity Group’s engineers tested a prototype Timberliner at Holiday World last spring.
The
Voyage is 1.2 miles long and provides a record 24.2 seconds of “air
time.” This steel-structure wooden coaster, ranked the #1 Wooden
Coaster in the World by Amusement Today for three years running, includes a record five underground tunnels (some are double, creating
eight “underground moments”), a series of...
