 | Southern Indiana Museum to Celebrate its 11th Anniversary |

The Dubois County Museum will celebrate its eleventh anniversary of operation on Sunday, August 22, 2010, with a variety of activities planned for the day. The museum will open from 1-4pm. Free ice cream will be served from 1:30-3:30pm, as well as, a variety of desserts. The desserts will be available from recipes that are featured in the recently published cookbook coordinated by museum volunteers. Cookbooks will be available for sale that day at a cost of $12, plus tax. For the younger folks, Snickers the pony returns to give pony rides. Also, during the afternoon, area pianist and organist Dan Racicot will play from a variety of Kimball instruments on display at the museum. Dan had sold Kimball organs first in Michigan and when he relocated to Jasper he continued to sell the Kimball organs and pianos. He remembers featuring the Swinger organ at local fairs so that fairgoers could witness the many capabilities of the organs.
The Dubois County Museum, Inc. was opened in 1999 after two years of planning by a group of citizens who desired to create a museum for Dubois County. From 1999 through 2004, the Dubois County Museum operated in the historic Gramelspacher-Gutzweiler Building located at 1103 Main Street in Jasper. In 2003, Dubois County Museum, Inc. was gifted the former Jasper Corporation building, a 145,000 square foot building, from Kimball International on north Newton Street in Jasper. This location became the new home of the museum in 2004 and currently serves as a showplace of Dubois County’s rich heritage and History.

The
Dubois County Museum is joining with the town of Dubois for their
125th
Celebration with a special display of items at the museum. The
exhibit will run until Sept 12. Samplings of artifacts in the Dubois
display are a 1943 photo of the Bender School and its class, photos
of Hickory Grove School, 1908 and 1917 Dubois Grade and High schools,
Other pictures show the Dubois Blacksmith Shop, Beech Grove Dance
Hall, Mathias Café and 1908 Farmers State Bank.
There
are 2 quilts featuring Dubois, a Dubois High School Band uniform, a
class sweater, and several promotional items, one from Chester Kalb
service station. In addition one can find artifacts from the GAB

Strassenfest Events at the Dubois County Museum

JASPER, INDIANA-- The Dubois County Museum announces these activities during the Jasper Strassenfest August 5 through August 8, 2010.
Thursday, August 5 –the Museum is open from 10-2pm. On special display will
be the German Sister Cities 25th Anniversary Exhibit, the complete collection of
Strassenfest mugs, buttons, and programs from 1979-2010, and an exhibit of
complete collection of Jasper native Norb Krapf’s books.
Friday, August 6 (open 10-2pm) German Sister Cities 25th Anniversary exhibit
featuring notes and photos from 1984 and forward on the establishment of the
Sister Cities connection between Jasper and Pfaffenweiler. Martina Eckert, 93
years young and keeper of the Sister Cities history will visit periodically. See the
Eckert’s Trachten (period German dress) on display. 10 am-1pm-old German
script translation by Marilyn Nathan and Lucy Wood. Bring in your items with old
German script for translation (postcard size).
Saturday, August 7- (open from 10-4pm)-Exhibits continue. View Schnitzelbank
(woodworking bench) demonstration every hour on the hour. Perhaps try your
hand at it. From 11-2pm-old German script translation by Marilyn Nathan and
Lucy Wood. 2pm-special reading of requests by Jasper’s native son Poet Norb
Krapf and signing of his many books. Mr. Krapf’s books are available in the
Gift Shop. See the impressive display of the complete collection of his books in
